When will my columbarium arrive?  Honestly, right now it is difficult to predict.  If you have not been following global trade news you might not be aware that we are in the throes of a worldwide, once in a lifetime shipping mess.  This is just the best way to describe it- a mess. Containers are not available, ships are full, ports are overflowing and rail lines are in gridlock.  Ports are so full that ships are having to wait at anchor tying up more capacity and further making a bad situation worse.  We are seeing shipments that used to take 3 weeks to arrive now take 3-4 months IF we can get onto a ship. And shipping prices, rates are crazy with ocean freight going up 3x to 10x this year. So what does this mean to you, our columbarium customer.  First off, know that we are working on this every day (and often into the night) to get your shipment moving.  If you have current orders with us, we are working on them and they are moving, albeit much slower and at much higher costs to us than we have ever seen.  As shipping companies are not allowing containers to ship via rail or to inland destinations in the US right now, we are bringing all shipments into our Centralia, WA yard.  Here we sort and unload the shipments and arrange delivery to you on a flatbed truck.  We are doing everything we can to get you your orders as fast as possible. If you are thinking about a new columbarium or a new project you will see that the quoted freight rates are much higher than in the past and lead times are out to 6 months plus.  What I recommend doing is working with us to design and develop your project and hold off ordering until later winter or early spring when the situation has hopefully cooled down a bit.  As always, our goal...

With many businesses shutting down all non-essential services and limiting contact with others, this represents some rare quiet time for planning.  We have been working from our respective homes the last few weeks, but Doug and I are surprised with how many customers we have been talking to and quoting future projects.  It's actually been quite busy. So if you have a project that you have been thinking about, now is a good time to start planning.  Contact us- let us know what you are thinking.  We are here and would be glad to talk through your project, possibly give you some ideas that you may not have thought about and get you either a firm quote or just some budgetary pricing.  No obligation, we're friendly and looking forward to your call....

I just got back from the ICCFA convention in Vegas last week.  It was a good convention with lots of good questions and great attendees.  You can definitely tell that the economy is strong and cemeteries are running out of cremation inventory placed into service before the Great Recession. In interesting question came up for the first time ever at a show, and it was asked two times by different customers.  They asked "How come your units are so much less expensive than (another major competitor)?" If any of you have been following my newsletter rants for the last decade, you know that my driving mission is to provide the best value in the industry.  I define value at that unique spot where quality and cost intersect to provide a top quality product at a fair price.  I have spent countless hours over the last 15 years developing what I strongly feel is the best columbarium in the industry.  Our materials are top notch and sourced from the best places in the world.  We commonly use materials from the US, Japan, Norway, Italy, China and India in our projects.  Our designs are all designed by me to withstand the test and ravages of time- I try and image how our products will look in 300 years when designing.  With this in mind our columbarium are build of all-granite construction with real bronze rosettes (did you know that some of our competitors use zinc rosettes that are plated to look like bronze- how long do you think that will hold up?, but that's another rant...

Close your eyes and imagine you are at a beautiful Polynesian resort on a secluded island. Feel the warm sun and tropical breeze. Listen to the gentle water tumbling down a nearby waterfall and the rustling of bamboo. Delight in the scent of a spectacular garden of tropical trees, plants and flowers. Throw in a beautiful blue sky and impeccably manicured grounds and enjoy the beauty, peace and serenity of this luscious island. But you’re not at a luxury resort enjoying a long-awaited island vacation; you’re at a cemetery. Guam Windward Memorial is a new, greenfield 17-acre memorial park and cremation garden cemetery in Yona, on the eastern side of the tropical island of Guam. With an expansive view overlooking an upland grass valley, it is a showplace of contemporary architecture, gorgeous statues, grand mausoleums, striking fountains, exquisite stonework, tranquil gathering spaces, tropical gardens and an impressive array of unique memorials—all with Polynesian inspired elements. Guam is a U.S. territory in Micronesia, in the western Pacific Ocean. It’s distinguished by tropical beaches, villages and ancient stone pillars called latte. It lies about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines. With a diverse population of 161,000 on its 217 square miles, it is the most populous island in Micronesia. Guam is a unique blend of the indigenous Chamorro culture with peoples from all over the South Pacific and Asia. The Spanish-Catholic influence is still very prevalent from the times when Spanish galleons sailed the seas, along with a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Trukese, Pohnpeians and other Pacific Islanders. Guam is a major tourism destination, especially for Japanese weddings, and has many luxury resorts. These elements played a role in inspiring the look and feel of the cemetery. A landscaper turns to cemetery development Robert “Bob” P. Salas, president and CEO of Landscape Management Systems Inc. Corporate Holdings, based in Guam, is the founder and owner of Guam Windward Memorial. A Guam native who went to...
